Bologna boasts the oldest university in the world (just minutes from the flat) and is therefore an extremely lively, friendly town that has none of the disadvantages of more tourist-packed towns like Florence or Venice. The picturesque surrounding hills can be reached by bus or bike and are an ideal place to sample local specialities, which the town is rightfully famous for. The city is full of churches, museums, art galleries and is also famous for its cinema museum and film festival. During the summer the city moves outside, making the most of its piazzas, parks and porticoes.
